2022 Atlantic hurricane season has begun, and the first tropical storm in the roster was named Alex. National Hurricane Center reported on Monday morning, that Alex moving away from Bermuda. Despite high winds during Sunday, the Storm weakened and currently not a threat to any populated centers.

Topical storm Alex will gradually diminish tonight. High pressure will build westward into the Bahamas to the south of Alex. A surface trough will linger across the North-East waters through Thursday.

Last week Alex brought floods o Miami and other areas in Florida. Floodwaters were up to 3 feet above normal level, submerging at least a few dozen cars. But overall, no major damage in the state.

Before that officials in Cuba reported three deaths and power line failures. Over 50,000 people were left without electricity on Friday according to the country's Civil Defense Organization.

As I've mentioned before, NOAA expects above-average hurricane season. Previous observations of the Loop Current in the Gulf of Mexico showed conditions similar to 2005, when warm waters fueled hurricane Katrina.
