Desert underwater — heavy rains cause flooding in northern Saudi Arabia

Unusually heavy rains hit several cities in Saudi Arabia. Streets of Arar city turned into muddy rivers. At the same time sandstorm reduced visibility. Local media and residents shared videos and pictures, showing water level reaching up to 6 feet (1.8 meters).

Meteorological services expect heavy rains to continue in Hail, Jawf, Qassim, Najran, Wadi Al Dawasir and Taif.

Residents are forced to abandon their cars and seek shelter. Some report stuck vehicles. Emergency services under heavy load. Mosques were warning locals to stay at home via loudspeakers.
